On October 20th I had the pleasure of participating in the Art Crawl at the MCC given by well known, local Artist, Mary Powley. Each of us were given our own trestle table with the materials we needed to produce a small painting under the careful instruction of Mary. She gave us simple details to follow and came around to check we were all able to perform each step in the limited total time of 2 hrs. For this exercise we were asked to concentrate on the principles of Line and Shape. We were given a sheet of paper listing all the principles used to organize or qualify the elements.
The event was well organized to run efficiently and no abstract painting experience was necessary to follow the simplified procedure. Some of the participants were obviously experienced artists and others total beginners. Everyone produced something they were able to take home and complete at leisure. I am confident everybody learned something new.
No fee was asked for but I gave a small donation to Pelham Cares for being able to attend the first Art Crawl Event. Thank you Mary and Stephanie Yole from Pelham MCC who helped in the organization!
