Art Amidst COVID Pandemic

February 11, 2021

Like many of my artists circle, a  visit to the Van Gogh special exhibit this year was a highlight of the summer in 2020.  I was fortunate to have ordered tickets in advance and the Covid restrictions were handled extremely efficiently.  It was a very unique way to experience the work of this incredible artist which was accompanied to an apt selection of beautiful music. I loved the whole presentation and marvel at the wonder of modern technology which made this event possible in Toronto.  It was amazing to see Van Gogh’s brush strokes enlarged to clearly illustrate his expertise and see his unique sunflowers fly across the wall.  I rushed home and took masses of photographs of a bevy of sunflowers in our own garden.    I look forward to many more similar exhibits in the future highlighting other famous artists from our history books.

I visit as many Art exhibits as I can and always try to make a special effort to support local artists.  Some artists I particularly enjoyed recently were:  Eric Ranveau, Stunning; Blaise deLong, exciting bright colours after my own heart; Dave Bolduc.   Although a virtual experience I particularly enjoy seeing the excellent work of a close friend of mine from Toronto days, Natasha Lehman with beautiful nature studies.  Do take the opportunity to google these names.

In March 2020 we returned home early from Florida, back to  cold winter.   I spent a lot of time this summer, in between playing golf, to study an On Line intensive course on colour and design.  It is different way to learn new skills and force practicing many exercises some of which I enjoyed and some of which I found plain tedious but probably necessary!   The result is that I am working on a new collection of paintings to incorporate different elements I have focused on.  Some of the small paintings under heading New Work were done during this initial period of learning with  emphasis on shapes and different values with a very limited palate.

When I am ready to launch this new collection, I will be making a special announcement so you can be aware of further opportunities to see the exhibit, hopefully in person when restrictions allow.
